Art in Year 6!

In preparation for our whole school art exhibition next year (dates to follow) we have been examining the face! Drawing parts of the face, the whole face and eventually OUR own faces!
This week we looked at how we could re-create two new styles of art using some images of a face.

We took these two images and have re-created them. We have used cutting and drawing skills as well as linking William Morris ( another famous Vitocrian!) into our work.
We hope you like it! href=”http://year6atlb.kingsleyprimary.net/files/2017/12/IMG_1579-e1513786844395.jpg”>

Throughout the last few weeks of term we have been concentrating on adding detail into our writing. As well as punctuating speech correctly, we have been looking at how to vary our sentences structure, embedding clauses and using double adjectives in order to add further information to interest the reader.

Today the class have made delicious Peppermint creams. Following the recipe and then designing a box to carry the finished sweets in, the children all enjoyed tasting these Victorian Festive treats.

In History we decided to research different Victorians in order to find out why they were famous. We had a lot to chose from and so researched quite a few. Many of us chose Charles Dickens, Florence Nightingale and Mary Seacole.

We used subheadings, questions and pictures to present our information text.

In Science, Year 6 have been building circuits. By changing different components we were able to predict what would happen to each circuit and how the electricity was aletered by any changes we made.

During the last few weeks, the Year 6 class were offered the chance to take part in a Chocolate challenge.
This would involve problem solving, fractions and team work. As a group, those that took part went through the results and looked at how we could record our thinking. By picking diagrams and notes to record our ideas we could find patterns and decide how best to share the chocolate. There was also plenty of chocolate on offer!

What has been happening in Year 6?

In Literacy, we have been learning how to write detailed Biographies. We looked at famous people’s biographies and then analysed the language and text features. We then had the opportunity to interview Mrs Lane to find out all about her life so that we could write her biography. Once we have written them we are going to display them and hopefully get some on the website.
In Numeracy we have been revising our methods of division. From fact boxes, chunking and both the short and long method, we now should know which method suits which type of question and can use the methods quickly and efficiently. Next week we should be linking our division to fractions.

In Science we have been exploring Electricity. We had the chance to make different circuits using bulbs, switches and lamps. Moving forward we will be looking at series and parallel circuits.
Our Art skills are developing and we have started looking at faces. Our aim is to eventually create a self portrait, but first we have to explore different parts of the face and then think about how these parts all fit together in proportion.
In PE we have been getting energetic with Tag Rugby and Circuit training. Let’s hope the weather stays mild and we can get outside and burn off our energy.

A REMINDER: Don’t forget that you should be reading at home with an adult at least 3 times a week. It’s really important that you talk about what you are reading and look at new vocabulary and text. Make sure your adult signs your homework log. It will earn you DoJo points!
